History of the Association

The Medical Scientific Association of Moldova has as a historical predecessor the Union of Medical Scientific Societies of the Republic of Moldova created in 1997.

The historical beginning of the Medical Scientific Societies of the Republic of Moldova can be seen in the 50s-60s of the 20th century. A series of Medical Scientific Societies were founded in the following fields: Surgical Science Society, Scientific Society of Internal Diseases, Scientific Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Scientific Society of Pediatrics, Scientific Society of Neurology and Psychiatry, Scientific Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology etc. These societies were working at that time under the supervision of the Medical Scientific Council of the Ministry of Health.

With the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova, the activity of the Medical Scientific Societies of the Republic of Moldova changed. They have become more autonomous, independent of state organs, more corporate in terms of professional unification in the medical field. The new realities in the medical field have dictated new conditions of functioning of the Scientific Societies with a tendency of association of the Medical Scientific Societies of the Republic of Moldova. As a result, in 1997, the Union of Medical Scientific Societies of the Republic of Moldova was founded and registered.

In 2015, a reorganization meeting of the Union of Medical Scientific Societies of the Republic of Moldova took place with the participation of the Chairs and Secretaries of 27 Medical Scientific Societies. At this meeting the actual Medical Scientific Association of Moldova was created and the Statute of the Association was adopted and the leadership of this scientific board was elected.

At present the Medical Scientific Association of Moldova unites 39 medical scientific societies with more than 3700 members.
